    What is hedging?

Hedging is the process of trimming and manicuring a bush or shrub to keep it looking neat, out of pathways, and healthy.

    Types of hedges

Hedges can vary from hedging that follows a fence line to create privacy, to standalone hedges that are more of a feature. The type of hedge as a plant itself varies too, with the likes of lilly pilly, rosemary, sweet viburnum, and orange jasmine some of the more popular hedge varieties in Perth.

    Privacy & security

Hedging can act as a great privacy screen for blocking out nosey neighbours or passers-by. They’re also more of a deterrent than fences due to the scratch-factor – crims are probably less likely to jump over a prickly shrub than an easy-to-scale gate or wall!

    Aesthetic appeal

A well-maintained hedge can be more aesthetically pleasing than a fence, and is a popular divide between front yards and footpaths. They also work well to mask an existing, unsightly fence, injecting green and vibrancy to your space.

Techniques and tools used in hedging

When performing our hedging magic, we use a variety of tools to get the job done right.

    Hand tools

These can include shears, secateurs, pruners, clippers and saws, depending on the size of the hedge and the result you require.

    Powered tools

A powered hedge trimmer saves time, saves our arms, and produces a clean, sharp finish on your hedge. There is a huge variety of different hedge trimmers available, including telescopic ones to reach the highest of heights (which we have).

    After-care for your hedge

After getting your hedges trimmed and manicured, it’s a good idea to promote growth with a fertiliser and some mulch. Check with your nursery what the best kind of fertiliser is depending on your plant variety, and away you go.

    Choosing a hedging service

Prior to choosing which hedging service you’ll go with, it’s a good idea to ask a few questions first. We're ready to answer any of these questions!

    • Questions to ask
      • How much hedging does my plant require?
      • How long will it take?
      • Will you remove and dispose of the leftover trimmings?
      • How much does hedging cost?
